In the beginning, we first met our clients the CCM (Children Creatitivitiy Museum) and asked what they wanted out of our studio. They stated, “We envision a world where creativity, collaboration and communication inspire new ideas and innovative solutions. We believe that the success of the next generation will hinge not only on what they know, but also on their ability to think and act creatively as global citizens.” With that in mind, we wanted to create something that was mobile and was to be able to teach invoke the three C’s.
We first started to design a puppet to better understand the idea of theater and puppetry. Ive started to design a puppet that was to be a replica of an octopus, in the way it moves its body. It was simple and durable for any child to play with. This resulted in a one pull action that had counter weight system connected to its legs.
This later progressed to designing the “mobile theater”. Again, within this design I wanted to invoke the three C’s that the museum stood strong behind to. Yet I believed that these three C’s could still be applied to the older generation of people and would be able to create a “well rounded” citizen with the help of redesigning the carousel of CCM.
You might ask, why redesign the carousel and not create an actual theater that is mobile? This is because the carousel was a failure of a product to the CCM by not attracting the community any closer to the CCM, it wasn’t to be able to invoke those same ideals that they wanted, and it wasn’t even functional at this time.
By doing so, I would be able to bring the community together with bike parking, urban exercise equipment, electricity, and communal events provided by the city.
